A Portrait of Joe Zawinul

With Weather Report, Joe Zawinul pioneered a seismic shift in American jazz, incorporating international rhythms and new electronic tonalities. Born into an Austrian peasant family, by the age of 30 he had already worked with his heroes Ben Webster and Dinah Washington. His composition In A Silent Way was selected as the title track for Miles Davis' 1969 album and, shortly afterwards, Joe formed Weather Report with Wayne Shorter, Jaco Pastorius joining in 1975.
