Hello, voracious summer readers! Hopefully, you’ve had some time to read all the latest and greatest (or oldies but goodies) music books. Better yet, share your thoughts with a review on our site. We took a bit of the summer to update our site and make it a better user experience.

We’ve built out each Genre to include dedicated books, reviews and videos to provide deeper content for your favorite music book sections. You’ll also find a regularly updated column on each Genre page that updates musical birthdays, deaths, and milestones.

Roll Call 2014

Only halfway through, 2014 has already taken a heavy toll on the music world. Not the garden variety “death by misadventures” of relative unknowns, tragic as those might be. No, we’re talking revolutionary musicians who changed the course of music history, leaving an indelible mark on their chosen field.

Blue Note at 75...or 100

You may have heard recently that the venerable jazz label Blue Note Records, on the occasion of their 75th Anniversary, has created a “75th Anniversary Vinyl Initiative,” where they will release five re-mastered vinyl recordings that it considers essential, in the original, much admired — and often imitated — sleeve design. Vinyl and design enthusiasts should collectively applaud Blue Note’s undertaking, even if the concept is flawed in execution.
