Another one bites the dust. Allen Lanier, founding member of 70s hard rockers Blue Oyster Cult has passed away at 66. Lanier was hospitalised with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (C.O.P.D.), a disease associated with smoking.

When the new issue of Rollingt Stone arrived, proclaiming Bruce Springsteen as one of the "best live acts now" (maybe ever) I went back to a blog post I wrote last year about the Boss' show at Fenway Park in Boston.

The other day my Facebook feed started filling up with Happy Birthday Jerry Garcia posts. And it got me to thinking about his death and whipsaw of the sixties — how it keeps biting back long after the last note rang out over the hills.

Excellent obit on Mick Farren and, although I don't know much about his career, I'm inclined to learn more about this renaissance man after reading this.
